Bobe (grandma)
2022
This series, honors and restores the complex and emotional journey of my paternal grandmother, Bubbe Rushke Honig de Hoffer. A Jewish woman who emigrated to Argentina from Poland in 1926, Bubbe Rushke left her parents behind as a young girl, and suffered wounds of exile and uprooting. My work offers her an opportunity to recover her voice, and to express the unspoken words of stifled silences and repressed emotions. As these raw memories and bitter experiences take root and nest in new stories, we find a healing power which extends from Bubbe Rushke and allows each of us to heal the broken parts of ourselves.
